Topic: Hello everyone! We have a very important announcement for you all.

Posted under General

After reading through the conversations linked on blep, I think both sides need to first get some sleep, then take a deep breath and start over with the intent to come to a mutual agreement on a compromise. I think the majority of people here still want this to work out, so please, try again with a cleared mind and some sleep. Let's not jump to conclusion about who is what after 2 days. It doesn't have to be over yet, they seem to be still open to discussions. Everyone deserves a second chance, we are all human and we all make stupid mistakes.

The MakeFox company needs to understand the staff here knows the best how to operate the site - whether it needs user verification or what should the guidelines be. The unwillingness to listen to a developer who knows how the site works is not very wise, but there also should be an expectation that some things might change. To me, Hinoserm looks like a cool guy with atrocious communication skills, not a sociopath. All of these issues can be solved after a proper constructive discussion. They will still have the final say (as the legal entity), but that does not mean that they cannot backtrack on their initial decision.
Their phrasing of the moderation concerns were not formulated the best, but there was also no need to take them as attacks. This is why I don't like to discuss such serious topics over text and prefer face-to-face communication where these misunderstandings are much less common and can be resolved much quicker.

The staff here needs to understand that the company has all the legal liability and needs to, legally, have the final say. But as far as the conversations go, that does not mean MakeFox is not open to discussion and potentially a result different than what they have proposed first. They seem to be willing to listen, though the way they communicate it is poor.

I did read the contract. From the contract alone. Everything sounded proper for a company taking the reins. The main conflict was how hands-on MakeFox wanted to be. Corpo getting the final say was expected. Even BD had some final say here. MF was reaching way too far and wanted to push out staff. Change things. Then let staff control MF's vision. The lack of wanting to listen to the community's heads that are already installed is dumb. They were inheriting something and decided to smear it into their vision. Also. Not a big fan of them being allowed to remove staff and put up whoever they want. If they aren't putting up a director or artist, they are gonna miss a lot, and the quality control we are used to will plummet. Though I thought I read that they wanted to remove takedowns... Ugh.

Instead of deleting content, we could create a separate tag for artwork that contains artifacts. I sometimes save such pieces myself, as I understand that fixing an artifact can be difficult, even when the rest of the artwork looks fine.
On the other hand, this would create a large amount of unnecessary clutter that takes up disk space. Furthermore, I’ve already encountered instances where users delete their own artwork for various reasons. So, the idea of keeping such pieces remains a debatable approach.

Ah, it’s all already happened...
Well, the drama continues.

I hope everyone reaches a reasonable agreement and everything turns out fine.

It's tens of thousands of dollars (recalling what FurAffinity needed to pay for running the site after they refused to comply with Advertiser demands)

FA has way more traffic, but also made a few odd decisions about hosting that have caused it to cost more than it otherwise would.

I'll admit that one of my primary concerns over all this is just trying to keep an intact archive of things so having this happen with all the subsequent blowback and deletion of things people have posted is just... exhausting.

Well, this is awkward. In any case, I estimate that the import of e6ai's content to my site will finish in around 24 hours. Due to these dramatic circumstances with blep.art, I think I'll make the announcement and invite people to register on Sunday.

Please do. I'll certainly be there.

I already miss Bad Dragon's relatively chill (IMO) handling of their booru sites. As for funding, I'd offer a token argument with aforementioned existence of SoFurry, but their userbase is quite small.

It's unfortunate.

It's a transition period. There was inevitably going to be some amount of friction / conflict. Unfortunately it appears that there was either no way for both sides in this to come to an agreement, or else the path was so narrow as to be unlikely to be threaded.

I you both need to cool down, sleep on it, and talk it out.

I think both E6AI and MakeFox only want what's best for the AI community, and are just panicking about some issues that - understandably - cause alarms to go off on both ends. Which is understandable after the after rug pull we've got with this site shutting down. It's understandable. But, please, talk it out.

With regards to Blep.art.

I've read the through what both sides have publicly said, and I gotta be honest - you don't come out looking good.

First - You can't demand a different website owner to hand the keys over to you. Their site, their money, their rules. I understand you want to slot right back into the positions you've had at E6AI - but E6AI is dead and almost buried. You have no privileges on a new site and you can't demand any. You have no authority anymore.

I understand you care about what E6AI was and want to continue in the same way, and want to make sure the new owners don't exploit your free labor and self-destruct the new website out of greed, or carelessness, or out of malice. The new owner admitted he's new to boorus in general, they're making changes out of the blue, everyone's on edge and wants to make sure they're in control.

As long as you both what's best for our little community of AI perverts, I think you can talk it out.

Second - Blep have done nothing wrong so far. Stop telling people to spam their forums, delete accounts, withdraw donations, etc. You're just burning bridges with no benefit to anyone.

Is the new owner technically illiterate and wants to turn the new site in a vibecoded mess? Maybe. Who knows. I don't. But it's not the end of the world. A few bugs won't kill anyone. It's fine.

Do they want to change site policies in the way you don't like? Maybe. Reading the recorded conversations, it comes to this:

"We'll try to keep the site and its policies exactly as they were."
"Okay."
"Actually, we have to make a couple of changes."
"We're leaving."

This is an overreaction. They said "try" and that's it. No hard promises. And it wasn't even any kind of big change to anything. Obviously they won't make any hard promises. It's their site. Not yours.

So, staff, please. Sleep it off, gather your thoughts, and try again. I trust you can talk it out like adults. Understand that you're fighting for authority over a new website - and right now you have none. All you can do is convince the new owners you should be part of it.

Moreover, there is nothing to prevent the old team from copying the website again and running it under a new name.
The simple fact is that blep was just faster.

Well, thousands of dollars in hosting costs prevents it. But if anyone can do it, more power to them! More AI art websites is best for all of us.

Every website costs money. But anyone who provides a website should do so in their own interest - not at the expense of the users.

Yeah. And I think ultimately both E6AI and Blep teams want what's best for the users - they just have disagreements about how to guarantee the new site won't go belly-up.

Good janitors/moderators/admins in these types of web sites makes all the difference. If you have egomaniac/general assholes in the team, is going to ruin the site for everyone.
And this MakeFox guy kicking all of e6ai staff out of Blep is giving real bad vibes.
Maybe a hostel takeover of sorts?

A bunch of Directors already threw blep out over this announcement so it will be missing some of them.

So...the ai artists are doing literally the same thing to blep that bluesky antis did to e6? Like, i can see that what blep did with the complete rugpull is a complete dick move and pretty much ruins my trust of them, but this is the funnies thing ever. Like, a new site popped up because antis cancelled the old site and the new site is cancelled by the pros. You can't make this shit up.

sort of wanted to force a lot of things going against what was expected initially.

The vagueposting is really not helping the case. i do get contract negotiations are complicated business, but it's really hard to take a side when the only concrete info is "they sort of wanted so do some stuff maybe"
