tube top

A tube top is a shoulderless, sleeveless garment that wraps around the wearer's upper torso, exposing some or all of the midriff.

The materials and design of tube tops can differ wildly: some tube tops are cut to reveal cleavage or under boob, others may cover most of the wearer's upper torso, going as far down as the navel; some fit tightly to the body, and others hang loose at the bottom. Some tube tops are made of a single loop of material, while others have zippers or other enclosures.

Tube Top, Strapless Bra, or Bandeau?

These other two garments are frequently mistagged as tube tops:
Bandeau

  • A bandeau will always cover less skin than a tube top, tightly wrapping around the wearer's breasts (or pecs).
    • A tube top may reveal under boob, but should not be a tight material like a bandeau (see third example above).
  • If the character is wearing a tight top that only covers the breasts, baring the wearer's breasts being too large for the top, it's likely a bandeau, not a tube top.
  • If the top only covers the breasts, and the top is worn as a part of swimwear, lingerie, or is in the context of an ancient/medieval/fantasy setting, it's almost definitely a bandeau
Strapless Bra

  • A strapless bra is identical to a traditional bra - only without shoulder straps.
    • A strapless bra will have separate cups to hold and support the breasts, a tube top will not have cups (though some tube tops may have the top of the "tube" cut to resemble cups)
    • Strapless bras are less likely to be worn casually in the way tube tops are, they are typically seen as part of a costume, as lingerie, or swimwear
