a new tag category named "Artstyle" that will allow people to name a distinct artstyle they created/found or an artist that they're mimicking

I'm only a user here, but personally, I think this is a really bad idea.

Copying the styles of individual artists is bad, and it gives people who already dislike AI more ammunition to argue against it. Besides, I don't think art styles can really be put into a list in the first place. There are many styles that haven't been named yet, and there are also styles that fall somewhere in between two or more existing styles. It would also negatively impact creative diversity indirectly - because getting fewer views for something outside of the list could be discouraging for its creator.

The biggest issue for me, though, is that this could make it even more difficult to convince the more reasonable people among the AI-haters that AI isn't actually as bad as they believe. I've already come across the styles of artists who have explicitly said that they don't want their work copied and who are very much against AI.

I understand that getting great results this way can be tempting, but I think actual artists deserve to be respected, particularly the best ones. We shouldn't start going down the same road as NovelAI, whose image generation model literally lets you type in the name of an artist you want to steal from, based on what I understand from what's been posted on Reddit.

Instead, I'd suggest using image-to-prompt to get ideas for how to achieve something similar. You don't need a specific AI for this; most chatbots can analyze an image.

That being said, the admins of this website may have a completely different view on the matter.

We already have artistic media and technique meta tags, inherited from e621, but all AI art is digital art, so their usage is a bit dubious. Does it make sense to tag digital art imitating traditional art as traditional art? In my opinion no, and they've gone mostly unused. I think we'd need a project to redefine the meaning and use of those tags, so they're explicitly style tags and not media/technique tags, and applying them doesn't feel like a misuse.

There's also a prompt button that can sometimes reveal style information. And if that doesn't work you can just ask the director directly.
