In the universe of Arknights, a mineral central to this realm is Originium. While potent and allowing the equivalent of magic, called "Arts", the originium can infect the cells of a living being, causing disease called "Oripathy".

Oripathy causes the infected body to develop originium crystals fused within it's cells, which will progressively invade the body, until completely crystalized.

While incurable, treatments exist to suppress the effects and progression of Oripathy.
Even though infected-to-infected transmission is theorized as impossible, not many studies have been made on this infection, which is also very stigmatized.
