A sandwich is a type of food made by placing items between two slices of bread. Common ingredients include: meat, cheese, onion, tomato, lettuce, etc. Condiments are sometimes included such as mustard, ketchup or mayonnaise. Occasionally a toothpick may be used to hold all the layers of ingredients pinned into place for easier eating.

Sometimes other items may be placed between two slices of bread to make an inedible sandwich. Most often this is used for for humor or as prank. Even characters can be part of the sandwich itself, as shown with sandwich connoisseur Reuben on the far right image above.

Types of sandwiches:

• dagwood_sandwich — A tall sandwich with multiple layers of assorted condiments.
• grilled_cheese — A hot sandwich made with pre-buttered grilled (or toasted) white bread and melted American cheese.
• peanut_butter_and_jelly_sandwich — A simple though sometimes messy sandwich made with... peanut butter and jelly. Kids love it.
• submarine_sandwich — A long sandwich made from a bread or roll that is split lengthwise. Known under a variety of names, it's the kind of sandwich that Subway serves.
