An extract from “The Dragon on your Doorstep: Living in harmony with your local dragons” by Anthony Shepherd, published by Oxford University Press (2034).

As a rule of thumb, never approach the lair of an unfamiliar dragon unannounced. Male dragons in particular can be fiercely territorial, and an unexpected incursion on their land can be misinterpreted in a number of ways. Often, a dragon will perceive an unknown visitor as a threat, and will seek to drive this visitor out of their territory. This can be done by roars, threatening advances, and in some cases by direct physical hostility of varying degrees. Deaths are rare, but serious injuries do sometimes occur when a dragon is provoked by an especially unwary traveller.

In some cases, however, dragons will consider newcomers on their land as being a new addition to their property or horde. The dragon will usually mark this newcomer in some way, to indicate the visitor now belongs to them. In a sense, this is much like a dragon marking his territory. Visitors can be marked by scent, which in mild cases can involve a dragon rubbing up against them, or nuzzling them with snout or claws. In more extreme cases, a visitor can be marked in the same way as the territory, through direct urination.

Occasionally, depending on the dragon, and on the visitor, this marking process can be much more involved. Possession marking can be done through sexual activity. While this can be a quick process, records indicate that sexual marking by a male dragon is usually prolonged and energetic. Interviews with those who have been through the process suggest that this is in part down to practicality, since a male dragon is often much larger than a trespasser on their territory, and the visitor’s anal passageway will often need some stretching and expansion to accommodate the substantial size of a dragon’s penis. However, those questioned often stated that the dragon seemed to take great pleasure from the act, which they also believe was a contributing factor to the prolonged period of sexual activity. Such an explanation holds weight, since dragons have been demonstrated to produce large volumes of semen during such encounters.

Interestingly, it is not uncommon for visitors who have experienced such behaviour to revisit the dragon involved, and to engage in further sexual activity. Indeed, some have admitted that they initially openly violated that dragon’s territory, in the hope that sexual action would result. This writer would strongly suggest that anyone considering such actions first consult medical and sexual professionals before engaging, and to engage in preparatory training.
