Description
Two souls once broken by the world—a fox wounded by prejudice and a lynx nearly crushed by familial coldness—found each other at their darkest hour, and through love and trust, became one another’s lifelong healing and unwavering home.

Pawbert stood before Nick, his claws tightly clutching the ring, the fabric of his trousers whispering against his restless, twitching tail. He drew a shaky breath, his voice trembling with emotion.

Pawbert:

“Nick… I’ve always been… terrified. Terrified of failing, of being… just another disappointment.”

“If I hadn’t met you, I might have spent my whole life hiding behind my father and brothers—pretending to be meek, pretending everything was fine.”

“Just like that day… when a single cold look from my father left me speechless, and I could do nothing but run away.”

He paused, lifting his gaze to meet Nick’s, his eyes rimmed with red.

“And then… I saw you.”

“A little fox, forced into an ill-fitting scout uniform, wearing that ridiculous muzzle.”

“They all said you didn’t belong, that you weren’t a ‘real’ scout.”

“But all I could think was… my god, you’re just like me. Another kid the world had completely misunderstood.”

Nick chuckled softly, reaching out to intertwine his claws with Pawbert’s.

Nick:

“Before that day, I’d almost started to believe the world was right about me.”

“The way the prey animals looked at me… like I was born with fangs.”

“But you didn’t. My little lynx.”

“You just walked right up, tore that stupid muzzle off my face, and said—”

Pawbert’s voice was soft, reverent, as he finished the sentence:

Pawbert:

“‘You don’t have to hide.’”

“Those words… became the courage that carried me through so many dark nights.”

Nick’s tone grew serious, laced with a warmth that belied his usual sarcasm.

Nick:

“If it weren’t for you, I might have become exactly what they expected—a cynical, lonely fox who trusted no one.”

“But you showed me that at least one brave, kind lynx would always be in my corner.”

Pawbert swallowed hard, fighting back tears.

Pawbert:

“And without you… I might have lost myself completely—chasing approval so desperately that I’d do something I’d regret forever…”

“Without you… I wouldn’t be standing here.”

“Nick… thank you for choosing me. I love you.”

The officiant smiled warmly at them, his voice gentle yet solemn:

Officiant:

“You may now kiss.”

Nick:

“I love you too, Pawbert… always mine.”

Nick leaned in, capturing Pawbert’s lips in a tender kiss. Pawbert stiffened for a heartbeat, then melted into the embrace, closing his eyes as he surrendered to the promise of a lifetime with the fox who had saved him in more ways than one.
