Description

Oh boy — oh boy! This year's Christmas you get yourself in a story... A few years ago you saved a very injured Deathclaw. Instead of finishing it, you decide to take her as a potential guard of your settlement. If the experiment fails, then you just finish it off for good.

Turns out it was a female, and she was very weak. You even thought that she did not make it, but you are a persistent and well-equipped veteran of the Vastelands, surrendering is not about you.

After two months of careful care, you can tell that she is definitely smarter than people say about Deathclaws. Heck, she might even be as smart as an adult human. She surely understands why you try to help her, and she also does not see a threat in you (at least you think so). For a reptilian radioactive mutant, she sure has some..very human-like features, and some of them..very notable... Probably in her genes present a good chunk of human DNA.

You feed her, help her clean herself, clean her enclosure (which she can easily destroy in her current condition, but she did not do it) and try to be gentle and wary around her. Seems she likes your care and tries her best to be civilized and reduce the chores that you do for her.

After another month, she made an almost full recovery. For all this time, she did not attack anyone or break anything (except a couple of buckets because she didn't calculate her force after she started to recover).

One night, when very few of your settlement's citizens decided what they wanted to go to in a more crowded place (your settlement is very far away from any surviving civilization and small but cozy and has natural protection from all sides), you did not hold them back and let them go with some supplies and wish them save travel.

Then you start to think about additional chores and a New Year (presumably) after just a few days, you decide to go and get some sleep earlier than usual.

You were fast awake from the thunderous roar of your Deathclaw taming experiment subject. You think what that is it..you're done for..she very soon broke your room's door and helped herself to a tasty human flash meal... But you were wrong... You can clearly hear that she is indeed breaking free from her enclosure with ease and after that you hear many terrified human screams and a lot of shots. Few even manage to hit your small house walls (luckily they were additionally reinforced and bullets do not penetrate them).

After a few minutes, you were engulfed in silence. You don't know what to think... It was clear what bandits get in your settlement and probably somehow provoked your Deathclaw to attack them. Your fear started to build up fast because, with no other targets present, there was only one left: YOU.

You suddenly jumped slightly in your bed, then you heard her start to carefully scratch your door and make a quiet guttural sound that you don't recognize as a threat. You decide what if she wants, she can easily demolish your whole house, let alone a single reinforced door. You come closer to the door, and she stops to scratch it from the other side. She only produced some quiet sounds which were more like friendly pleas instead of aggressive threats.

Here it goes: you decide to open the door. When you do it, you see your Deathclaw subject half-covered in blood and bullet holes and even more bullet marks that did not manage to penetrate her scales and skin. You understand what you initially were very naive. If she wants to harm you and run away, you can't do anything about it, you probably will not even react in time. Heck, you are not sure if even "Fat Man" can take out a fully recovered rare Deathclaw in prime condition...

She stares at you — you stare at her. You both were in this state for about 30 seconds. After this time, she got back a little and tried to make a beckoning motion. You follow her outside and see the next picture: 13 literally torn to peace bodies of raiders and.. a few hours ago, cityzens! Traitors! Now you understand how bandits get into your settlement easily and quietly... You believe in humanity too much... Looks like now you are only on your own... You think at the moment...

After a few days living all by yourself with your now fully trusty Deathclaw bodyguard, you start to reinforce your settlement's walls and camouflage the sides that can potentially be seen from a distance. Your Deathclaw was very curious and was always with you watching what you were doing. Her intelligence is obvious, and you even start to speak with her from time to time (like you have a choice: you and her..that is all). She did not understand you but always made some cute and goofy sounds, and you never feel yourself alone.

After a few months of coexisting together, you develop a pattern: you maintain the settlement, cook and clean, and she patrols around, hunts and guards you then you outside. Since accident with traitors and bandits, you let her roam your settlement as she pleases. She chose another large house that was for gatherings, and it was close to your house (she initially wanted to live in your house, but it was too small for both of you).

You decide to try and let her learn some of your language, if this will be possible at all. You do not have any educational materials for children or adults whatsoever, but you do have an all-in-one device with a TV and VCR and some Christmas films. You do not watch all of them because there are a lot of cassettes there, and you usually do not have time for this. Mixed with family movies, there were a few "special" tapes with a Christmas theme, but these tapes are better to be watched alone...

You teach her how to use this all-in-one device and to be extra careful with all tapes because you can't get another one if something bad happens to them. She was a very capable scholar and followed your teachings as you showed to her.

After a whole year together, you were more like good friends than the owner and his pet. It was again almost time for the New Year and you started to decorate her house because it was large enough for the Christmas tree, and you usually prepare this house for festive activities with a few of your previously good citizens.

This New Year's celebration very unexpected surprise is waiting for you... Only after some time do you learn what exactly was on these tapes, but for now you need A LOT of antirads and probably some stimulators too, because your Deathclaw girl (what you call Dina btw.) makes a very bold move on you and something tells you what you cannot say "No"... Well..she even finds somewhere some radioactive mistletoe to fully follow "traditions", looks like she tries her best, and you own her your life, so..it will be only fair... You wonder what probably radioactive mutant pussy is taste like, but first big dose of antirads...

Happy New Year in advance everyone! I hope you will get what you want and the world will start to be more gentle with all of us! Cheers!
