Though this was part of the same photoshoot, Major Hayes considered this shot a bit more to her dignity than the other one, because she insisted on keeping at least part of her uniform on. Her troops joked that this one could be used as a recruitment poster — someone as pretty as Major Hayes baring herself in uniform like that would get emus lining up to enlist for sure!
The sergeant behind her is one of the ones who was most eager to see her. He only enlisted for a few years; after the Emu War, he and Hayes would meet again.
