No no, the tail is not missing. In a world of anthros and other species, we'd need to adjust our furniture. This for example is a special chair for beings with bigger tails. There is a round hole behind the back of charizard where they can stick their tail through and relax sitting on it (or do other "things") while they don't have to worry leaning against the tail sideways.
