Yup, because a few people would simply get their toes in an uproar if they were even the slightest messed up.

Such an unfortunate thing to happen, hopefully they come to some terms and decide to keep it open. :/

I appreciate the support from my images over the years and will still periodically upload in the E6AI discord.

I almost never go to e621 because there is too much trash to filter through to get to anything good. This site has great art on every page.

It's sad that AI is taking over the work of artists but it's the reality we live in. We have to cope. We can't shut our eyes and pretend it isn't happening and hope for the best. If we have to deal with AI, then we might as well get some damn enjoyment out of it!

I hope we can disagree like gentlemen. Handshake, smile, keep talking. The internet has gotten so full of pure spite that it feels rare to just sit with different views without trying to crush the other person. I still want that, even when it’s hard.

Absolute takes on whether AI has a place in art or none at all feel unwise to me. We’ve been arguing about what counts as art since photography. Pressing a button on a box isn’t automatically art. Doing it with real care, composition, context, and intent can still reach people. Same with prompting. I don’t like that anyone can just declare themselves an artist. Painters, illustrators, directors, storytellers, even careful prompters—those are fine. “Artist” is something other people raise you to when the work actually moves them. A thousand filtered selfies, fingerpaints, mediocre funding-driven movies, AAA Studios creating the worst of games, or pure prompt spam don’t automatically qualify just because someone wants the title.

Some people reduce the whole idea of art down to their own hunger for the story of the starving artist—the toiling, suffering, romantic figure who must bleed for it to count. That story has beauty for people who need it, but it isn’t the only way. Effort isn’t the whole story either. Someone sitting on a rock telling a story that makes strangers cry can be more of an artist than someone grinding forever for nothing. Mastery often looks quieter than people expect—less wasted motion, more of the thing that actually lands. Sun Tzu wrote about winning with elegance and as few moves as possible. A lot of the real victories in life look like that and go unnoticed.

AI datasets are a snapshot of the visible internet of humanity. That’s why the argument about “stealing art” feels incomplete to me. Steve Jobs liked quoting Picasso: “Good artists copy; great artists steal.” T.S. Eliot said something close: “Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal.” Of course you still have to make it your own. But shapes, lines, ideas, words, colors—at some point the opposite turns dystopian. Corporations already copyright birdcalls, the sound of wind, nature ambience, even specific colors. Ownership of ideas has become one of the strongest weapons companies use against each other and against everyone else. I don’t condone direct theft of finished objects or money. I do find the total lock-down of iteration strange.

Of course we get flooded with slop on For You pages, recommendations, and when scrolling. We call those places home? Is this really the place we lost? We shouldn’t use those things in the first place. We’re supposed to tell one another what we like, visit the channels we want directly, and search out things with purpose and will instead of letting the algorithm serve us and then complaining about what arrived.

At the same time the tools can be useful. My brother cares for someone paralyzed from the neck down; they give him back expression and function. I’m a nurse for a post-stroke patient who used to do technical drafting and now struggles with her hands. I generate custom writing practice sheets for her every day so the exercises aren’t childish. It takes minutes and frees time for actual care. That’s not nothing to me.

Prompters can still be artists if they treat it like a director: not chasing cash or instant dopamine, but trying to evoke something real with care and media literacy. Creativity comes from the mind more than the hands. Directors often never touch the camera. Photographers don’t invent the light. Storytellers retell old things. The medium isn’t the point. Whether it comforts the disturbed, disturbs the comfortable, or just makes someone feel less alone is.

We already live with worse everyday: violent media kids access too young, porn desensitization, social media anxiety and status games, short-form attention destruction, radicalizing music, beauty contests and reality TV that commercialize bodies and manufacture narratives people love to hate. AI is another tool in that mess, not the unique apocalypse. Infighting over it mostly distracts from the platform holders and big companies who profit either way.

I spent time in academic art circles in Vienna and did commercial 3D and illustration work years ago. Back then the academic and professional side was often more open about adapting new tools and approaches than people outside expected. It’s almost funny—most would assume the trained, institutional world would be the rigid and elitist one. In the end a lot of self-taught internet artists turned out to be the more prideful and gatekeeping. Less accepting of other ways to do things, more certain their method was the only pure one.

Experimenting with this stuff once got me treated like I was tainted by black magic inside a friend group. It wasn’t about the work itself. It cooled down later and we stayed friends, but the speed of the spite was real and shocking. I’m tired of the endless squabble about who gets to decide what art is allowed to be. Art is an experience that happens in the head. I’ve seen AI-assisted work that stuck with me emotionally the same way certain moments in nature do—light through leaves, color on a single petal, wind on skin. If it moved someone, it moved them. If it didn’t, it didn’t.

There’s something beautiful in still being able to sit with all of this without needing to win. In wanting people to keep creating, keep feeling, keep disagreeing without turning it into another war. Even when the tools are messy, even when the flood of slop is real, even when we don’t fully agree—there’s still the chance to leave someone with a little more hope or a little less pain than they arrived with. That still feels worth protecting.

Money. Hosting a site with thousands of images and users takes a ton of cash. Only reason the big image boards are still alive is due to sponsors, parent companies and ads.

Basically impossible. Inkbunny requires metadata in such a way that large, multi-part, inpaint-heavy pieces are impossible to upload there. I would need to provide metadata for basically every one of my thousands of inpaints per piece.

And IB's full of pedo stuff, so I have little desire to be associated with it.

I also think part of the reason is that people are leaving e621 and moving to e6AI. Speaking from my own experience, before e6AI came along, I was on e621 almost every day. Once e6AI launched, I switched over there, and now I only check e621 about once a month.

Also, users were upset that AI content was starting to leak into e621. But by shutting down e6AI, they’re just going to get even more of it.

Like it or not, AI is unstoppable. If it's not this site, someone else will build one, and we'll all just migrate there eventually. And let's not forget, traditional artists will also die out (or evolve) someday; we can't just stay in the Stone Age forever.

    Sad news.
To find decent AI-generated images on other sites, you have to sift through tons of junk. Here however, such trash doesn't make it past moderation.
And sorry, but frankly, many hand-crafted work are no better than create AI. Still have to dig through tons of garbage to find any decent work, because the moderation process lets even the most amateurish scribbles (for example, on e621 itself).
But if I understood correctly the saddest part is that they won’t even keep the site up in an archived state.

Yeah, I thought about making a thread in furry diffusion or e6ai's server, but it would probably be very inconvenient for both me and everyone else. It would also require a discord account just to read, which I'd really hate.

And I don't know if age verification would be needed. I recall there was some ruckus not too long ago about them wanting to see an ID for adult servers (then the IDs got leaked). That's a no go for me.

Nah, the comic's far too confusing to post in short lived threads without context, and using /sdg/ only to facilitate activities attached to one's off-thread persona is bad manners. Just look at all the controversies surrounding user #20623.
Also part of the reason I stopped going there is to give the regulars a break from the local intelligentsia. Don't know if they calmed down any but if I started posting again for this, the thread would be mostly nonstop seething. I miss funposting, but I'd rather not ruin the thread for anons.

So, people who don't even come here and like the stuff here are punishing for this site to be closed? Isn't that the internet in a nutshell? If every site had to close just because people didn't like it, there would be zero internet. BD should stand their ground and not do what the idiot masses want.

That this is happening in the furry community is staggeringly hypocritical.
    What argument has been made for the rights of furries to exist; to be allowed to express themselves, enjoy each other's company, and to be left alone by those who do not share their interests and values;
What such argument does not apply equally here.

Big AI needs to be regulated and held accountable, before it polutes our water, screams into the quiet nights of our communities, and possibly brings about the extinction of the human race, but
nit-picking how furries get off is not the way that battle will be won.
Shutting down a well-managed furry sight will is not progress toward eliminating AI slop.

If you choose to share your art publically, and you are good at it, there will be people who imitate you.
This has always been true. It is true for every medium.
We have seen it with AI scraping, but
We have seen it with tracing before that.
We do see it every day in 3D physical media.
How many knock-off transformers are out there, obvious copies of existing characters?
Hasbro (that evil cesspool of... I digress.) just has to grin and bear it.

    If you want to fight plagerism;
Support sites (like e6ai) with responsive and proactive moderation.
Call out specific individuals for their specific theft, just as you would when you catch someone tracing other artist's work.
Support artists by paying for commissions.

Stop blaming the tool for the workman's crimes.

Just an FYI but posting thinly veiled artist hate and conspiracies justifying it in a roundabout way are part of the reason no one likes AI and it's proponents and are only proving them right on every front. The fact that e6ai existed in the first place, by the same people that made a regular art booru, was always a double edged sword and the fact it survived for as long as it did is honestly a miracle. A lotta people could use being a bit more mindful of the tools they are using, and especially of the artists they are literally prompting.
