Description
I have finally got my tablet working in GIMP! I still face significant issues switching between the pen and mouse (once I pickup the pen the mouse events are completely ignored with no going back) but personally for me it's still so much better than Krita..!
This project features hand-drawn shadows. "It Ain't Much But It's Honest Work" but who knows, maybe I will learn drawing myself in the very distant future. Most sketches for inpainting were also done on tablet instead of using mouse.
BEN2, a brand new image segmentation model, was used to separate the background and foreground at some point in my project work flow. Just a few months ago I was so happy about BiRefNet, then RMBG-2.0 got released and I thought we have achieved peak performance, but now we have this! BEN2 handles hair like a champ, it's not perfect but it's times better than BiRefNet. It also natively supports huge resolutions which is a plus for me. If you are looking for a high-quality background removal tool, I recommend giving BEN2 a try!
Working with background and foreground separately allows having a truly kickass background without noticeable colour transitions introduced by inpainting. Yes, even with Soft Inpainting enabled you could still see these transitions but here the background is 100% free of these flaws.
Models used:
1. NoobAI-XL (NAI-XL) Epsilon-pred 1.1-Version
2. CyberMFCG
