King Minos of Crete prayed to Poseidon, the god of the sea, for a sign to prove his right to the throne of Crete. Poseidon sent a magnificent bull from the sea as a divine sign. Minos was supposed to sacrifice the bull to Poseidon as an offering of gratitude. However, he was so captivated by the bull's beauty that he decided to keep it for himself .
