    Fun fact: Male lions can lose their mane if their testosterone drops or if they lose their pride in battle due to age. They are also the most dangerous to humans since at this state they essentially become underfed scavengers. Female lions gravitate towards the strongest largest lions with the darkest manes, (dark chest and stomach fur is a plus). If you ever see a lion in it's prime with a very dark, giant mane with that dark line going town his stomach, he's the baddest thing in that pride.

    Similarly you can have females with a mane.
