The site has a strict policy when it comes to characters that are young so I'm afraid that's not an option.

It's specifically in regards to underaged characters whilst they're underaged. Aka, if they LOOK young, and the character has been depicted young, then they are.
Case-in-point: all of the Applebloom images on here.
So, you can do it... but you gotta make them not look like they're in elementary school.
