Her name is Yue Xiaokui, a fox mascot from a scenic area in Guizhou.

There is a simple little coincidence in her name that I’ve always loved:
Yue, the Moon.
Xiaokui, the little Sunflower.

A sunflower turns toward the light and blooms beneath the sun.
The moon, meanwhile, belongs to the sky after the sun has gone down.

That is the Balance I wanted to show.

To me, balance is not always about standing perfectly still between two sides. Sometimes, it is the fleeting moment when both are allowed to exist at once.

The sun has already reached the edge of the mountains. The sunflowers are still holding on to the last gold of the day, while above them, the sky slowly fades from orange and crimson into blue and violet. Day has not quite left yet, and night has already arrived.

She walks ahead along the little path through the sunflower field, then suddenly turns back and reaches out her hand toward you, still trailing a few steps behind.

The sunflowers are still facing the final light of day, while the little fox with “Moon” in her name is already on her way into the evening.

Though perhaps she hasn’t thought about any of this at all.

When she reaches out her hand, maybe all she really means to say is:

“Come on, hurry up. It’s getting dark!”
