Sorry, I'm just having too much fun exploring the life of this lady.

This photo is from around 1923. Prohibition wasn't in Australia or the Emu territories, but its cultural effects were still felt the world over, and Staff Sergeant Hayes was all for the partying that came with the Jazz Age. On top of that, it gave her a convenient escape from the damage that coming home from the horrors of the World War did on her psyche.

"I wasn't even the least-dressed one there," she said with a laugh when asked about it.
