Scp-1471 is the app
Scp-1471-a is the creature, aka mal0

I was looking online and the sources I find say that Mal0 is the name of the app itself:

SCP-1471 is a free 9.8MB application for mobile devices named "MalO ver1.0.0" in online application stores.

Looking at the e621 wiki (not saying it's always correct though) seems to further support that https://e621.net/wiki_pages/60020
On top of of that e621 also has mal0_(species) so it's very confusing :S https://e621.net/wiki_pages/show_or_new?title=mal0_%28species%29

Mal0 is the name of the app thats correct but calling scp-1471-a "mal0" is fanmade as the 1471-a doesnt speak

Also
Why mal0 species
They are literally a skulldog

Did some research and mal0_(species) is somewhat valid

There are instances of fan made mal0's

As malo_0.9 being a "beta" and malo_1.1 being an updated one and malo_1.0 being the version as being design accurate to the original original image without fanmade proportions or designs
This has years of work besides being small shouldnt be regarded
As you can see here in this drawing made by the person who fed the scp community for years on good stuff

Though the change for mal0 to be aliased scp-1471-a is still a valid tag change as 1: they are the same 2: tag implication doesnt make sense
