catgirl -> cat_humanoid used to be the old proposal for this on e621 (it's deleted now), but they changed it to -> feline for a reason. You can use this thread (-> feline accepted) and this thread (-> cat_humanoid rejected) as a reference but basically the reason stated was:

  • "catgirl" is the common term for female cat_humanoid but:
    • catgirl can be potentially mistagged on feline anthro characters, and not just cat humanoids, so it shouldn't be aliased to cat_humanoid
    • catgirl could be applied to a gynomorph character, so it shouldn't be aliased to female

The original proposer of the -> cat_humanoid alias even went back on their proposal after feedback in the rejection thread.

Feedback:

People do have an annoying habit of using humanoid terms and tags for anthros, which has caused no end to problems with anthros being tagged humanoid. It should be aliased to either female or feline, but definitely not cat_humanoid.

Realization edit from the -> cat_humanoid proposal:

Reject this alias, should be catgirl -> feline based on feedback

  • This alias could cause anthro characters to be automatically tagged as cat_humanoid
  • Aliasing catgirl to female could cause an intersex character to be tagged incorrectly
  • "Catgirl" is only going to be added to feline characters, this is the best way to alias it away without causing mistags.

To avoid the same problems of mistagging here, I don't think it should be aliased to cat_humanoid.

Despite my original ponderance as to why the catgirl -> feline alias existed in the first place, I hadn't considered the things dfY6C has highlighted.

Sure, it (people tagging female anthro felines as catgirl) might not have happened here, or happen regularly, but that doesn't mean it can't or won't, and then we'd end up deep in the hole of mistagged posts and/or generally disorganised tags.
