Topic: appeal and replacement function has significant drawbacks

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I have been actively using these functions provided by the website. The replacement function is very convenient and I have used it many times. For normal posts, these functions work well. However, for deleted posts, using these functions is extremely uncomfortable.

The post I published was deleted by the administrator within about an hour. When I discovered this, it had already been ten hours. I filed an appeal and the post was successfully restored. But it has already been 12 hours later.

The restored post appeared on page 4 of the website. This was still a relatively short period of time. Last time, after I used the replacement function to restore the deleted post, it had been one day, and the restored post was already more than 10 pages away.

How many people would continue to browse through posts they have already seen until they come across the restored ones? If a post is reposted, it will appear at a prominent position on the website. However, if the replacement or appeal function is used, the longer the time elapsed, the further down the post will be placed. Fewer people will notice it.

I hope to enhance the appeal and replacement functions. I would like the administrators to be able to choose to have the deleted posts appear at a prominent position on the website rather than being hidden many pages down.

That's the only thing that can't be fixed. Posts are ordered by ID, so it's either make a new post and keep the penalties from the previous deleted post, or reuse the deleted post by undeleting it (reverting the penalties) and replacing the image (mind you that was never the intended use case for replacement, it was made to substitute the image for a better version on active posts).

It would be nice if posting superior versions of previous posts didn't penalize the previous uploader, but it's only a weak link that can't be relied on. The penalty is also a feature on e621, we just always lift it on e6ai to encourage people to fix their images (since here most uploaders are the image authors).

However, posts that are restored through the appeal function will still appear at the bottom of the list. While this indicates the post was mistakenly deleted, it indirectly punishes the creator by placing their restored content far behind on subsequent pages. This reduces visibility, discourages creators, and makes them feel as though hours of effort spent creating those images were all in vain.
These features are great, and I will continue to use them. Of course, they would be even better if they could be improved.

After reading the above I’m afraid there’s really no way to solve this problem, but I thank you for writing this. The more people talk about what's discouraging them here, the better as the importance of it is still greatly underestimated.

And you're right. I've noticed it too. My re-uploaded post ended up with only about 15 likes, which proves your point.
My experience suggests I should not try suggesting any ideas for solutions, but I'll try anyway:

Instead of "instant delete" I think it would be useful to have some kind of indicator on thumbnails for images that are still being reviewed, especially in cases where the artist and moderator might be working together to sort out an issue with the upload.

There could also be some conditions for using this feature, such as only allowing users who have already demonstrated good faith to use it, or setting a time limit (e.g. "Fix the issue within 24 hours or the post will be deleted"). You could also set limits on how often someone can use it, such as disabling the feature for users who fail to fix the issue in three posts deleted in a row (or something)
