Topic: Favs vs Likes

Posted under Off Topic

Whats the deal with people doing Favs over Likes? This has bugged me for a while.
Most images it's close to 2:1. Better one's run closer to 3:2.
I look who's Fav'ing stuff. So many people have 10k, 20k, 50k! What are you going to do with that?

It seems the same as adding every YT video to a playlist. Music, sure, throw that on random. But you're not going to watch "Ancient Civilizations Built Things We Can't - Alien Proof???" again. Even if you wanted to, you'd never find it.

Idk, maybe I'm a simple cat. I either want to see something new or I enjoy looking at.

It's kind of an unwritten rule that favs have more meaning than likes on e6, but just like on many other sites that offer a rating system with a fav system, there's just less thinking to push one button.

Even if you wanted to [find something], you'd never find it.

You can search through favs, so even in a collection of several thousand images you can still find what you're looking for easily.
Also, some people might want to save something without upvoting it. Upvotes "count" more from a lot of people's perspectives so they won't upvote a post if it's just average quality, but they'll fav it so they can go back to it later

...you can search through upvotes too. People just don't know that. For example: upvote:me

This is why I stopped updating the cheatsheet...

Of course, if they knew that not only can you search your upvotes, but your favorites have a cap (80,000), you might see different behavior.

Wasn't there a proposed feature (as a setting) to automatically upvote a post when favouring it?

There was, but it stalled out.

I knew and I even appreciate that it's there, but I guess it's just to be expected that most people won't know since most peoples' searches are simpler than that and probably don't need variables like that. It's usually just [species] or [character] or [kink] or a combination of those. Oh well 🤷

Also, UI options are almost always going to expose people to more options rather than documentation of something "hidden" (hidden isn't really the right word but idk what) even if that documentation is pretty out in the open. Possible UI option for votes (up/down/any) and favorites, maybe in the new search tools/advanced options? Not trying to pressure or impose with that suggestion, just putting that out there.

EDIT: To clarify the suggestion for votes/favorites: I'm aware that there is a UI option for score/favorites now, but the suggestion in this context was specifically for an option for the user's own votes/favorites, while the current options are only ascending and descending the most/least scored and favorited posts on the site in general.
