corset

1) A close-fitting undergarment, often reinforced by stays, worn to support and shape the waistline, hips and breasts.
2) A medieval outer garment, especially a laced jacket or bodice.

- A corset primarily shapes the waist into an "hourglass" figure, beginning at the hips and ending either just below or partially covering the breasts.
- A corset never has shoulder suspenders.
- While it may emphasize cleavage, a corset usually does not have molded bra cups or a distinct line of separation at the bustline.
- An underbust corset stops just below the breasts.
- A corset usually does not extend below the waistline.

If what you see does not match with these descriptions, then it should probably be a Basque or Bustier.
