light switch

A switch is an electrical component that acts as a gate for electric currents. It can either cut off the conducting path to "break" a current, or restore the path to allow the current to pass through. A light switch is a common switch that people use, usually to turn lights on or off. Two common modern light switch designs include toggle switches (like the one in the above left thumbnail) and rocker switches (for example, the Leviton Decora switches).

The tag off/on should not be used to refer to light switches.
