Guidelines for Velari creation

The main traits of the species:

• Wingless
• Small beaks with tomial tooth shape
• Eyes with uniform sclera color, lacking visible irises
• Backward facing earlike tufts
• Fluffy and dense neck tuft
• Long and thick tails with tuft at the end
• Digitigrade feet featuring 3 elongated toes with pawpads
• 5 fingers

Traits that may vary:

• Spotted fur on shoulders, back and hips
• Tongue and genitals that are typically match the sclera in color
• Nipples are usually represented as featureless bumps with the same color as the fur
• Feathers on the tail base
• Velari males usually have tapered avian penis (post #28349)
• There is also a subspecies, Velari infernix, which has adopted some demonic traits, usually horns and spade-shaped tails

Additional notes:

• Considered oviparous (egg laying) species, bearing from 1 to 3 medium eggs (post #43495) with a monthly develop cycle.
• Heat cycle. Females are subjected to heat cycles, driven by necessity to fertilize the developing eggs with the strongest effect on the second week after laying a clutch and weakest right before egg laying.
• Functional breasts. The chicks are altricial and need to be fed and taken care of for a long duration. From a very young age are typically breastfed.
• Navels. Despite being oviparous, Velari have visible navel due to yolk stalk scar, which is basically the same thing as umbilical cord scar.
