Meta: prompt metainfo

This tag specifies an image with a prompt and other AI-related settings information in its metadata, unlike prompt which specifies posts that have prompt information specifically in their written descriptions.

Do not use this tag if your image does not have embedded prompt metadata within the file. If you ONLY have the prompt in your description and the image does not have the prompt metadata, then use prompt alone. Both tags can be used if the prompt is in the image's metadata and the post description.

Generally, it's considered helpful to have this info present in the image description through the use of the prompt tag as that information would be easily accessible without external tools. If putting the prompt in the description isn't desirable for you, there are websites available for users that allow them to check the prompt metadata in an image as well as the "PNG Info" tab in A1111 and A1111-based webUIs.

Some websites for checking prompt metadata include:

  • AI Image Metadata Editor by Xypher7 - this allows you to manually edit an image's prompt metadata, in case any edits done to an image in a tool such as Photoshop/GIMP/etc. erases such metadata. This is also helpful for images that have been inpainted and the uploader desires to have the initial/rawgen prompt and settings data back into the final image to give the true prompt that created the initial image. This tool uses A1111/Forge/reForge format but can automatically convert ComfyUI metadata to that format.
  • AI Media Metadata Viewer by Prompting Pixels - Supports various formats such as A1111, Forge, ComfyUI, SwarmUI, and more.
  • NovelAI's Inspect page for NovelAI-generated images - prompt metadata for these gens shows up in the "PNG Info" tab in A1111/Forge/reForge, although somewhat more cluttered than the Inspect page.
