While not being functionally different, "cosmetically" people usually use and prefer the rex naming scheme more, especially in popular culture. The original reason still stands in that both of these tags mean the same thing, as there is only one known species in the Tyrannosaurus genus and that is the Tyrannosaurus Rex itself, so these tags should not be needlessly separated.
